As the morning sun rose over the horizon, Captain Topher woke to the sound of
peaceful waves slapping up against the side of his ship. And just as every thought of
this day being a quiet and peaceful one entered his mind, Captain Topher heard a
crash up on deck. Soon after, came the sound of pounding feet, squawking and
swearing. Enraged, Captain Topher stormed up on deck. "What is the meaning of
this?" he scolded.
Steve and Mike, Captain Topher's pirate thugs stopped in their tracks. Mikey
the Genius Parrot floated innocently to perch on the rail, as the last keg of brew rolled
off the ship and sank into the depths. "Good lord Mikey, what have you done?"
Topher scolded his pet.
Mikey just cocked his little parrot head to one side and blinked. "Squawk!
Mikey want a mint!" the parrot whistled.
Topher could never stay angry with his little friend for long. Captain Topher
smiled at the little bird. "Here you are." he said, holding out a mint.
Mikey winged his way onto Topher's shoulder and proceeded to crunch on his
mint.
Topher turned to his pirate thugs. "Now clean up this mess..." he ordered, and
walked over to the helm.
"But Cap'n," Steve began to protest.
"You do as you're told, you I'll have you walk the plank!" Topher scolded.
"Ay ay Cap'n" Mike said, as he and Steve proceeded to tidy up the deck.
A few hours later, Topher was happily steering his ship through the big blue,
inhaling the salty sea air happily (probably getting a buzz from it). Suddenly, there
was a creek and a crash. Mikey the Genius Parrot, who had been sitting on the edge
of the look out basket at top mast, hit the deck with a thud. Topher and crew jolted
forward but regained their balance quickly. After a few seconds of getting over the
shock, Mikey hopped back onto his little parrot feet and shook the dizziness from his
little parrot head. "Squawk! Land Ho! Squawk!" Mikey chirped, bouncing around in
circles on deck.
"Stupid parrot... you're supposed to tell us that BEFORE we crash into the
bloody island!" Steve scolded, trying to strangle Mikey, who flew over to Topher to
perch on his shoulder.
"Steve! Leave Mikey alone!" Topher scolded.
"Yes Cap'n" Steve said, hanging his head in shame.
"Mike, where are we?" Topher asked.
"On an island Cap'n" Mike said, scouting the terrain.
"Alright, then we will go forth and scout this island" Topher suggested, leading
his pirate thugs onto the island, with Mikey on his shoulder.
Not long after the pirates had been walking through the foliage, Topher began
to smell baking. Steve and Mike started swatting at bugs. As they got deeper into
the foliage, the bugs began to thicken. "Cap'n, maybe we shouldn't proceed any
further" Mike suggested, "There's too many bugs."
"Yes Cap'n, we should turn back" Steve agreed.
"Babies! Squawk!" Mikey whistled, "Not bugs ... little fairies!"
"Stupid parrot, I'll teach you..." Steve said trying to attack Mikey again, but
Topher stopped him.
"Don't touch the bird" Captain Topher warned.
"Mikey want a mint! Squawk!" Mikey chirped.
Topher handed the parrot a mint and continued onward.
At the very heart of the island, Topher found the source of the "bugs" and the
smell of baking. This island was the home of Millie, the Great Cookie Fairy and all
her little minions. Millie was a human sized fairy, but all the other fairies were bug
sized. Millie was baking oatmeal/peanut butter/chocolate chip cookies, with the help
of her little fairies. "Millie! We have visitors!" the little fairies said, twinkling with glee.
Millie, the Great Cookie Fairy turned to Captain Topher and his crew. "What
brings you here my friends?" Millie said, welcoming them to her island.
"Our ship crashed, and we were just looking around" Captain Topher
explained.
"I will send my fairies to repair your ship" Millie said, "Would you like a
cookie?"
Captain Topher and crew were glad to accept the cookies. They had no food
on their ship, and they hadn't seen land since the day before. Mikey the Genius
Parrot, however, refused to eat the cookies. "Mikey wants a mint!" Mikey squawked.
So, Topher gave Mikey a mint instead.
After Captain Topher and his crew had eaten their fill of cookies, they stood up
to say good-bye. "Please take these extra bags of cookies with you on your journey"
the Cookie Fairy insisted.
Mike and Steve each took a big bag of cookies and followed Topher back to
the ship after saying good-bye to Millie. The little fairies had fixed the ship and
floated near the shore, giggling as they waved good-bye. Topher wondered if the
little fairies had played a joke, and that's why they were giggling. But, Mikey the
Genius Parrot said, "Fairies always giggle ... little fairies don't know any better.
Squawk!"
So, Topher and his crew sailed away into the sunset.
